In just over a year's time, a Horley church will be celebrating 60 years since work started on building it.The date September 28, 1957 was a special day in the history of Horley parish.For it was on this day that the first sod was cut in preparation for the building of St Francis Church in Balcombe Road.The ceremonial cutting of the turf was conducted by Mr FD Edwards, who was described by churchwarden at the time, Mr JG Rowe, as the "fairy godfather" of East Horley.The event was held...
