Surrey County Council has scrapped its plan to increase council tax by 15 per cent. The increase would have meant an increase of at least £190 a year for occupiers of a band D property and was set to come into effect in April before a legally required referendum on the decision, which was scheduled for May 4. But at a full council meeting today, where councillors had gathered to discuss the authority's budget, leader David Hodge recommended a 4.99 per cent rise instead. READ MORE:...
